The curriculum is a self-directed learning journey to share the Culture Hack Labs approach, methodology and tools.

The Culture Hack Methodology distills 10 years of research and development by groups of radical thinkers, movement leaders, poets, hackers and artists.

This seven-module educational tool supports narrative practitioners in understanding the ontological shift (a shift in the fundamental ways we perceive, relate to, and engage with the world) needed to disrupt the core assumptions of capitalist modernity and equips them with the tools to transform the critical narrative landscapes of our time.

Over the years Culture Hack Labs has intervened in many different narratives around the world. We invite you to read our case studies and watch the documentaries to have a deeper understanding of the work we have done and continue to do.

It is important to remember that this is a living method and we invite you to make it your own.

Module 3:  LISTEN

This Module will guide you in transforming your Point of View (POV) into a Listening Model, enabling you to identify Narrative Communities. You will learn about big and small listening techniques, collect relevant data and sort your data into Narrative Communities.

Module 4:  UNDERSTAND

First you will analyse the Attention, Network and Power, as well as the Language of Narrative Communities you identified in the narrative space. You will then Map the Communities using Justice-Ontology axes to reveal key patterns and positions – building on the “Justice plus onto-shift” approach introduced in Module 1.  We will then identify where the Window of Discourse sits and where we want to shift it. This is the foundation for your narrative intervention strategy.

Module 4: REFRAME

Let’s get practical! This module supports your development of a Narrative Strategy to intervene in the narrative space. You will identify your Audiences, your Narrative Objectives, and start the Reframing process where you decode the narrative from your chosen Narrative Community and recode, or reframe it.

Module 5:  HACK

In this module, you’ll learn to execute a culture Hack using your Narrative Strategy and Point of View. We’ll define the message, meme, tone, media format, and optimal moment for your hack.

Module 6: ITERATE

This module will focus on success metrics and how we learn and iterate Narrative-led Systems Change interventions through our trials and errors.
